They did the same after union militancy at the Peasley plant in St Helens. The workers didn't grasp that you have to actually make some money and in the glass industry that means being efficient and willing to change and automate. You can't afford to sit back on your laurels and say you won't change but you still want more money. That way you stop making profit, that stops the investment and then everyones's out of a job. At the Harlow plant they used to employ over 2000 people, that is now just over 180 and they still turn out the same amount of bottles.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
